Welcome to BenchBoard (Beta): Coaching, Reinvented from the Dugout Up

We built BenchBoard because coaching tools never fit how we actually work. After years of juggling lineups, subs, and chaos, we wanted something better — built by a coach, for coaches. This is your digital dugout. Let’s build it together.

TAKE ME TO BENCHBOARD (BETA) - NOW!

Don't worry. We're one of those too. When you just came from work and you're rushing to coach into the next game going - it's exactly for one of these reasons why we built this.

For the rest of you who have some good minutes to kill or are curious as to why this thing works (or you happen to click on the app's banner) — I’m Radford, a coach, parent, lifelong student of the game and now the founder of this newfangled thing. For years, I’ve spent weekends on dusty diamonds and long evenings juggling lineup cards, substitutions, and parents’ last-minute texts. I’ve used every app, spreadsheet, and clipboard trick you can imagine — and none of them ever truly fit how coaches actually work.

That’s why we built BenchBoard - a platform designed by coaches, for coaches who live and breathe baseball and softball of all levels - from rec to travel and beyond. I've coached for 7 years in Little League, Rec and assisted travel coaches. It’s not another management app. It's not 4 minutes of understanding an interface before you enter in your player's name. It’s what you've seen before - just digitized, built to keep your lineup, defense, and communication perfectly in sync - whether you’re in the dugout, the stands, or planning the next tournament from home.

It took a little longer than we would've liked to build this thing but that's ok. It was clear that we were very passionate about solving this problem. It's a product that will be used by others like us.

And like a good video game, it starts familiar quickly but gets deeper in ways a gamer appreciates. With BenchBoard, our hope is that coaches will nod in appreciation.

Give the demo 60 seconds. It's easy and fun.

🌱 The Soft Launch: The First Inning

We’re officially live, but this isn’t the finish line, it’s opening day. And like any new team, it'll make errors, have issues, etc., but it will have all of the functions needed to get the team going.

This soft launch is for early adopters, innovators, and the kind of coaches who like to test new gear before the season starts. You’ll get access to pretty much everything. This is the foundation and user interface we’ve been building for months. This includes stuff I'm going to release in December which you'll read more about it below. Your feedback will mostly shape what comes next.

We know it's wintertime and in my neck of the woods there isn't a lot of tournaments - but we know they're out there. Ask any softball/baseball parent. Somewhere is an AST, PG, PGF weekend happening. Games are happening. That said, if you're a coach running a team now, you're in luck.

Here’s what you can do now:

Smart Bench Management

Manage your lineup and defense through drag and drop quickness

Lock your lineup, flag open positions, and even generate printable lineup cards. Best of all. All of that stuff gets sent to the cloud securely. For all the coaches managing younger divisions like 8u-10u teams (or rookie/farm divisions in little league), there's a 10-man defense option for you to check out. Not even current magnet boards have a nice slot for a 10th player - but we do ;)

📧 Streamlined Player & Updates – It's always a pain when you have to change things at the last moment - just after you wrote the lineup card. But life happens to coaches, parents and, of course, players.

With BenchBoard (BB), you can quickly activate/deactivate players in last minute situations which updates the defense and batting lineup automatically - just in time to print another lineup card.

Of course it helps if you've decide to get one of our recommended mobile printers (see below). This month you'll print from a laptop. But by next month, it will be from an iPad/Android tablet and eventually the phones.

🔐 Secure, Modern Login Experience – Account recovery and session management powered by the same tech stack used by major SaaS (Software as a Service) apps. What does that mean? It means the stuff and techniques you see pros use was to build this kind of software was done here.

Think GameChangers but smaller.

It means if the Internet is kind of spotty during game time? No problem. Everything syncs back to the internet once you're in range or decide to connect to a hotspot.

It means we've included two factor authentication (if you want it) for you paranoid Cybersecurity Analysts who happen to double as Little League coaches.

🛠️ Coach-First Design – We've worked really hard to provide a clean, fast, and mobile-ready interface that is friendly, quick and most of all familiar.

Remember these things?

This is what we're trying to replace and we bet you still use them now - and this one has decent handwriting. But we're also willing to bet all the times you've lost those magnets (because most of them sucked), misspelled those names and had to redo the batting order and defense when an emergency arose. This guy didn't even put the jersey numbers! Shame on him! 😅

But with BenchBoard, things just work.

Wait?! A guest player? Got another set of magnets? Nope.

Just "Add Player" and Boom - two digital magnets for you to move around for defense and batting.

And remember, this is a working product, but it’s also a living one - built to evolve with real teams, real lineups, and real feedback from the field.

Right now, this supports desktop and laptop. But very soon, we will support iPad and Android tablets in early December - and then the phones after that (January).

From NOW until January 26, 2026 - you get FULL ACCESS to BenchBoard's features.

🔮 What’s On Deck

BenchBoard is moving fast. Here’s what’s coming up in the next few innings by priority:

📱 Mobile-First Experience (Early December) – BenchBoard on your home screen of your iPad or Android tablet — one tap to open your latest lineup and print it. The lineup card will contain your 6 alphanumeric game code via QR or straight up game code. And how will you print them you ask?

We have a partnership with PHOMEMO and we recommend the M832D. It's tight and it works clean. Paper is inside. With just your phone/tablet and printer - boom - lineups, play sheets, fun times, oh my.

Phomemo Thermal M832D Upgraded Direct Touchscreen

A Cool Portable Printer with a whole bunch of stuff in it.

PROMOCODE: Vip-20 and take $20 off.

You're welcome.

Yeah. We Approve. Buy this.

Schedule Games and RSVPs (December)

Managers and Assistant coaches and will be able to co-manage lineups, RSVPs, Schedule Games and update defense boards with permission-based access.

RSVPs will automatically text players/parents once a game is scheduled. Once responded, it will automatically update BB and you'll see who's available for each of those games.

Print Call/Play Sheet and Wristbands (December)

Used often in Softball leagues and some baseball leagues, you can print your Call Sheet or Playbook in a small card or clipboard style you can laminate with admiration. Or, if your adventurous and like to change your plays often (or like some coaches, forgot the call sheet or a kid forgetting her wristband) - print them on the fly.

The beauty is those changes will automatically format them into the Call Sheet and Wristband playbook. Whatever format you want, 1 card, 1 letter sheet, or 1 to 2-paged wristbands? No problem. You pick the format, we make it nice and neat then you print it out. No more two documents to update. No more formatting in Word. Just one nice interface and a template to select from and we save it all on the cloud.

Performance & Participation Analytics (Early January)

Insights that go beyond stats — track trends, player usage, and game readiness over time. Rec ball coaches can track who gets enough time, give everyone a chance on defense and lineups. We even have our own algorithm to setup your lineups if you're tired of managing them on your spreadsheets. Same goes for travel teams - all in seconds.

🎯 Feature Refinements (January 2026) – Smarter validation (like full-defense warnings), faster lineup saves, and expanded team settings for 8U–12U and travel teams

🧪Future Ideas (Most of 2026) - Here are some ideas we're thinking of but we figure we'd get some feedback first:

  • Player Notes - Coaches can write specific notes about the player
  • Calendar view of the game scheduler
  • League integration (import schedules or integrate with league/organization)
  • Live Scorekeeping with exportable PDF - those scorebooks are next to retire
  • Comprehensive Stat Tracking

⚾ The Bigger Picture

BenchBoard isn’t just about digital lineups — it’s about reclaiming time for what matters most: teaching the game, mentoring players, and enjoying every inning.

This platform is built around real coaches, real feedback, and the shared belief that technology should support your rhythm, not disrupt it. In the initial phase, we're thinking portable printers and mobile devices - yes even laptops. But your team and its data should be accessible anywhere - that's why we took this to the cloud.

Oh, one more thing. If you're serious about making this thing work, be a supporter. Help shape the future of how coaches plan, communicate, and connect.

And why not? Let’s build something great together, one lineup at a time.

See you on the field,
— Radford
